Students may not enter the building until 7:15 am each morning. Students arriving after 7:50 am are tardy and should be escorted by a parent to sign them in.

Students are not allowed to be signed out after 1:45 pm.

Carpool Procedures

At Hayes, we put student safety FIRST! These guidelines are provided to help ensure the safety of our students, and we ask for your cooperation in following these procedures for morning drop off and afternoon pick up.

MORNING PROCEDURES:

• Maintain a safe (slow) speed when entering or exiting the school grounds; there are often students, parents and staff in the crosswalks.

• Park in a legal parking space and escort your child from the parking lot to the crosswalk for their safety if you choose not to go through the car rider line.

• Refrain from parking in reserved spots, especially the handicapped parking spaces. These spaces are not for drop off or pick up.

• Use the passenger side of your vehicle to drop off and pick up your child no matter the inconvenience of car seats, etc. Safety ALWAYS trumps convenience.

• Do a visual check to ensure your child is up on the sidewalk before pulling away.

• Remain in your vehicle at all times while in the car rider line; this will help to ensure your safety and keep the line moving quickly.

• Allow our staff to assist your child exiting or entering the vehicle if necessary. Ensure that your child is ready to exit with quick access to book bags, projects, lunch boxes, etc.

• Pull up as far as possible before allowing your child to unload (look for the signals from the staff outside and refrain from blocking the crosswalk).

• Obey the hand signals and/or verbal directions given by Hayes staff members.

• Do not pull around other vehicles unless directed by staff.

• Expect delays when it rains. Plan accordingly by leaving a little earlier.

• Please be respectful of the staff working our car rider line. They will enforce these procedures; the safety of your children is in their hands!

• Car line ends at 7:50 AM and staff members will come inside at that time. Students are tardy if they are not in their classrooms at 7:50 AM. Parents will need to walk inside the building with their students and sign their students in the front office after 7:50 AM.

AFTERNOON PROCEDURES

• Display your car rider tag in your front windshield for student pick-up. Students will not be called or released to a driver without one. If you do not have a car rider tag, please park, visit the main office and show proper identification.

• Remain in your vehicle at all times while in the car rider line; this will help to ensure your safety and keep the line moving quickly.

• Do not walk up to our staff and request that your child’s name be called. For safety and to keep our line moving, students scheduled for car rider dismissal will not be dismissed to parents who walk inside.

• Obey the hand signals and/or verbal directions given by Hayes staff members.

• Please be respectful of the staff working our car rider line. They will enforce these procedures; the safety of your children is in their hands!

• Encourage your child to sit quietly and listen for their name to be called during afternoon dismissal.

• Sign your child out in the front office on those days that he or she needs to leave before 1:45 PM.

• Car dismissal ends at 2:45. Students who are not picked up will be placed in ASP, and parents will be charged.

Again, student safety is a priority at Hayes. Please help us keep your children safe by following these procedures. We thank you in advance for making this a win-win for all!
