reading is for everyone

H.A.V.E.N. Academy at Sky View’s Media Center is a great extension of the classroom and is the hub of the school. It houses student fiction and non-fiction books, professional resources, desktop computers, and a mounted projector for lessons and presentations. With so many resources readily available, the Media Center is used daily by students and staff.

Classes visit the Media Center not just to borrow books but also for story time, to utilize the computers for research, to participate in I-ready, to play educational games, and to participate in lessons pertaining to media center skills and grade-level curriculum.

Crista Ryan, our Media Center Paraprofessional, assist our students and staff with all their library and digital needs. She is creative and the students enjoy the puppets and other resources she uses with story time. Ms. Ryan collaborates with the staff to provide exciting lessons that are appropriate and pertain to the current curriculum of each grade level.

The Media Center displays are routinely changed with the seasons and also to highlight different authors and celebrations. One of the highlights of the Media Center is the participation in Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The Media Center is transformed to celebrate both activities. Students visit the Media Center during this time to participate in crafts and to hear Dr. Seuss books read by guest readers from the community.
