Class Placement Information

As we begin to plan and prepare for the 23-24 school year, class placement is a task that is in the forefront of everyone’s minds. This is an extensive project that requires much time and energy to ensure that the best possible class is formed for each child according to their needs. In putting together our class lists we consider many factors. Some of those include boy/girl ratio, academic ability, services the child receives, behavioral characteristics, learning styles, etc. Throughout the placement process, we request input from classroom teachers, counselors, special education teachers, ESOL teachers, EIP teachers, specialist teachers, and all East Side Staff. Our GOAL is to ensure that each child is in a balanced classroom with a teacher who best fits each student’s learning profile and needs.

One very important piece of information at East Side that is used to form classes is parent input. As we work through the placement process, we welcome and encourage parent input through the use of an Input form. This year, East Side is encouraging all parents to complete an Electronic Parent Input Form per child for rising Kindergarten- rising 5th grade students, if desiredRising 6th grade students do not need a form as placement will be handled by their middle school. This form is completely OPTIONAL and please know that the utmost care will be used to select your child’s teacher with or without a parent input form. We are blessed to have only the best teaching staff at East Side Elementary and we know your child will receive an excellent education for the upcoming school year. The Parent Input Form closed at 3:00 p.m. on April 11, 2023.

Please note that placement conferences (in person or via phone/email) will not be held by administration NOR by the current homeroom teacher, counselor, etc. We are also not allowed to accept email communication, verbal communication, etc. in the place of a placement form being completed.

Please understand that once classes are posted, all rosters are FINAL. It is our school policy to only move a student if it is a mistake that we have made in the placement process, an error on the school’s part, or is required due to a student service need. We will not make any changes for any other reason.

If your child is NOT returning to East Side for the 23-24 school year, then we ask that you let us know this information by completing this formStudents not returning to ES for 23-24 school year. Please note that this form does not need to be completed for our graduating 5th grade students. Should you list your child on this form, they will not be placed in a homeroom class for the 23-24 school year. Should your plans change AFTER completing this form and you will be returning to East Side for the 23-24 SY, it is critical that you email the registration clerk (kris.michaelides@cobbk12.org) to let her know and complete any necessary paperwork.
