Attention Senior Families: Accessible Seating and Parking for Graduation

We are planning for parking and seating for our upcoming commencement ceremony. We will have accessible parking and seating available for our elderly guests and guests with disabilities. If you have someone in your party that requires accessible parking or seating please complete the Form which is included in this communication. You will receive a pass with your commencement tickets for accessible parking and seating based on the completion of this form. You will need to bring the pass to the commencement on that day.

Class of 2024 Baccalaureate Service sponsored by PTSA will be May 19th at 3:00pm at Cedarcrest Church.

Baccalaureate Service is not Graduation.  The Baccalaureate Service is a more intimate opportunity to pause and reflect on this right of passage.  The celebration will include music from AHS Chorus and Orchestra, reflections and messages from Senior leaders, and Pastor Vandegriff.

Seniors should wear their caps and gowns, arrive no later than 2:15pm.

9:00 am as you enter stadium. All senior fines, fees, and required documents must be resolved by this date. Checkout must occur for students to receive graduation tickets, cords, etc. Park behind home stands at stadium.

Students arrive 7:00 - 7:30 am. Must be in proper graduation attire to participate. Students who are late will not be allowed to walk.

CLASS OF 2024-IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Commencement ~ Friday, May 24, 9 a.m.

  • Cap & Gown-must be the newest version (from the last two years)
  • Graduation Requirements
    • Pass all required classes for graduation by Friday, May 17.
    • Meet all financial obligations, including payment for lost textbooks, parking fines, etc. and be “cleared” before the student will be allowed to participate in graduation practice. Students must be “cleared” at senior checkout.
    • Payments for financial obligations must be made in cash, cashier’s check, or money order. No personal checks will be accepted.
  • Graduation Practice Requirements
    • ALL Practices are mandatory and must be a priority. You must plan to be present for the duration of each practice. Adjust your schedule well in advance to attend on time.
    • Students are expected to follow directions explained during practices or they will be excluded from the ceremony. Diplomas will be held for students who are unwilling to comply.
    • Cobb County School District policies and Allatoona High School policies, rules and expectations are in effect at all commencement practices.
    • Appropriate attire is expected at practice. Students may bring sunscreen, sunglasses and hats for practice in the stadium.
    • Food and drinks are not permitted in the stadium during practice.
  • Ticket Requests
    • Notifications will occur in the Cobb Student Portal.
    • Tickets will be distributed after practice on May 23rd.
    • Student will receive weather appropriate tickets at that time.
  • Ceremony Behavior
    • All policies, rules and expectations of the school and Cobb County School System will be enforced. Students must remain properly dressed throughout the ceremony. Possession of disruptive objects may lead to removal from the ceremony. Disruptive students will be removed and not allowed to participate.
    • Graduates should not bring valuables to the ceremony. No one is available to monitor your valuables.
    • Students must arrive on time, follow directions, and cooperate fully during the ceremony.
  • Ceremony Attire
    • Ladies: Wear a solid color dress that is shorter than the gown, or dark dress slacks and a solid blouse. Wear black dress shoes of reasonable height (ballet flats or wedges are recommended). (No Vans, Converse, or athletic shoes of any type are allowed.)
    • Bring your shoes to practice on Thursday to make sure that the heels don’t sink into the turf.
    • No oversized earrings. Flowers and large pieces of jewelry are not appropriate with the commencement gowns.
    • Men: Wear a button-up white, collared shirt, a tie, black solid slacks (no jeans), black dress shoes (no athletic shoes), and black socks.
    • Only authorized honor cords are to be worn during the graduation ceremony. Students will not be allowed to walk wearing anything not on the list below.
      • Community service medal presented by Allatoona High School
      • Only academic cords may be worn at graduation: Honor cords for GPA (3.5 & up) and for any National Honor Society currently at Allatoona High School
      • CTAE cords are no longer given. CTAE pathway completers will receive a diploma seal instead.
      • HELM, Key Club, and Dual Enrollment and other cords are not to be worn during graduation.
  • Signs, posters, and balloons
    • Guests will NOT be permitted to enter with signs, posters and balloons. Courtesy to other guests is expected and these items block the view of guests nearby.

Graduation Tickets

Guest tickets will be requested online by the graduate via the Student Portal.  The graduates will request the number of tickets desired for their guests.  However, the graduate is not guaranteed the number of tickets requested.  Graduates and parents/guardians should discuss the number of tickets the graduate should request for the family.  Graduates who do not submit a request will receive a maximum of 2 tickets.

November 28 – Student Portal opens for December graduates to request tickets

December 15 – Student Portal closes for December graduates to request tickets

January 16 – Student Portal opens for May graduates to request tickets

February 29 – Student Portal closes for May graduates to request tickets

The Cobb Schools Foundation Scholarship Application is open!!!! This application is due by December 31. Please do the following to get to this application and other local scholarship applications:

  1. Log into your school laptop
  2. Go to the Allatoona High School website
  3. Go to Find it Fast in the upper right
  4. Click Naviance from the drop down menu
  5. Go to “Colleges”
  6. From the drop down menu under “Colleges,” click “Scholarship Search” on the right
  7. Type Cobb Schools Foundation Senior Scholarship into the Search bar
  8. Read through the application requirements and complete them by December 31. Remember to ask for recommendations now if you need them!

Seniors:

If you are working on college applications, do not forget to add the college in Naviance AND stop by counseling to fill out your transcript request form. It is $2 to send your transcript. Look at the senior packet given to you during your senior meeting for specific directions.

Important Financial Aid Information – We do not have confirmation that the HOPE scholarship will remain 100% tuition for 3.0 GPA and above beyond this year. Be mindful that you may need to meet Zell Miller qualifications to receive 100% tuition in future years. Always be prepared. Check out www.gafutures.org for additional information.

Make sure you have scheduled your senior picture with Cady so that you can be included in the yearbook.

Make sure you order your cap and gown through Herff Jones.

Georgia Match letters will be sent out this month to seniors that show them which of the 22 TCSG and 23 USG colleges and universities students are eligible to attend. In November’s Apply to College month there will be waived application fees. The matches are based on a student’s HOPE GPA.
